KATI BASTI - A PAIN MANAGEMENT IN AYURVEDIC WAY

This Panchakarma treatment procedure is indicated in lumber spondylosis, inter vertebral disc prolapse, lumbar canal stenosis, ankylosing spondilitis of acute phase, radiculopathy, dislocation of vertebra, traumatic paraplegia, osteophytes in spine etc.
It is a local snigdha sweda procedure where medicated oil is retained in the low back region...
This procedure can be done in the different parts of body...
1. Chest region- URO BASTI
2. Cervical region- GREEVA BASTI
3. Vertebral columns- PRISTHA BASTI

Materials required: Black gram flour- 250 gm, medicated oil(according to Panchakarma experts) -150 ml, vessel-3, spoon- 1, cotton- Q.S, hot water bath- 1

The black gram flour is well mixed with qty of warm water into a thick paste. It is then made into flat slab like structure having length about 45 to 60 cm, thickness of 3 cm and height of 5 cm.
Patient should lie in comfortable prone position exposing the low back region. The prepared dough is fixed to the area in circular shape, taking care not to cause any leakage of oil.
The oil should be warmed over the hot water bath and poured slowly inside the ring. It's temperature must be maintained at 40 to 45 degree centigrade, by replacing a small qty after reheating. Procedure should be continue for 45 minutes to 1 hour. After the prescribed time oil should be removed with the help of cotton.
This treatment should be continue for minimum 7 days. New oil can be used for 3 days. 4th day oil should be changed. 7th day remaining part of 3rd and 6th day is to be used.
After removing the dough the body part is cleaned with lukewarm water and the patient is allowed to take rest.
After this NADI SWEDANA (local steam) can be performed for 10 minutes for better result.
