A GUIDELINES FOR ESTABLISHING PANCHAKARMA CLINIC / HOSPITAL - Panchakarma Intervention in Public Health at Individual Level

A  GUIDELINES FOR ESTABLISHING PANCHAKARMA CENTRE/HOSPITAL/CLINIC

Panchakarma is a purificatory therapy that can be use for both preventive as well as curative purpose.

Ayurveda is the traditional, holistic and complex medical system of India. According to Ayurveda the human body is composed of derivatives of five basic elements i.e. ether, air, fire, water and earth (Pancha Mahabhutas) and these derivatives must maintain an equal balance within the body to maintain health.the healing and prevention process of Ayurveda differs from other system of medicines or treatment. If Tridosha (Vata, Pitta & Kapha) balance disturbed in body, the Ayurvedic perspective supports that toxins or ‘AMA’, will accumulate and saturate the tissues of the body, this can lead to disease. Ayurveda shares, with other holistic, multidimensional systems, the ability to provide medical care with a healing process that is customized to the patient, maintaining the personalization.
Panchakarma is one of the prominent Ayurvedic tools used to restore balance to the body. It is a bio cleansing regimen comprising of five main procedures, which facilitates better bio availability of the pharmacological therapies, help to bring out homeostasis of body humors, eliminate disease causing complexes from the body and check the recurrence and progression of disease. The five fold measures comprehended in this therapy are VAMANA (Therapeutic Emesis), VIRECHANA (Therapeutic Purgation), ASTHAPANA VASTI (Therapeutic Decoction Enema), ANUVASANA VASTI (Therapeutic Oil Enema), and NASYA KARMA (Nasal administration of Medicaments). Panchakarma procedures are preceded by SNEHANA (Therapeutic Oleation) and SWEDANA (Sudation) procedure to make body system conductive for elimination of bio toxins and cleansing of channels. It is an effective therapy in managing autoimmune, neurological, psychiatric and musculo-skeletal diseases of chronic and metabolic origin.
Panchakarma is designed to allow the body to rid itself of wastes that have accumulated and lodged in the body, creating blockages in the intelligent flow of the various systems, including the circulatory, nervous and digestive systems. Once the cleansing process is complete, the body can resume its natural functioning without interference.

SOME PREVENTIVE ASPECT:
·        Psychiatric disorders e.g. anxiety, depression etc. (SHIRODHARA)
·        Diabetes (VAMANA & VIRECHANA)
·        Hypertension (SHIRODHARA)
·        Cancer (VASTI, RAKTAMOKSHAN)

SOME CURATIVE ASPECT:
·        Cardiovascular accident (SNEHANA, SWEDANA & NASYA)
·        Obesity (UDVARTANA, VIRECHANA, LEKHANA VASTI)
·        Allergic asthma & COPD (VAMANA, VIRECHANA)
·        Gastro-esophageal reflux (MRIDU VAMANA, VIRECHANA)

Panchakarma or sodhana therapy is intended for purification of the body by which the accumulated morbid humors responsible for diseases are expel out to produce an ideal environment for proper functioning of body. Such purification allows the biological systems to return to homeostasis and to rejuvenate rapidly and also facilitates the desired pharmaco-therapeutic effects of medicines administered thereafter. Panchakarma has a full role as promotive, preventive and curative procedure. Proper scientific validation and documentation of this karma can only help in promoting and establishing Panchakarma for public health care.
